You're probably a little fuzzy on what was trending on the runways at New York fashion week since we were still bundled in scarves and parkas, so here's a refresher on the 5 hottest fashion trends. From flowing styles and delicate fabrics, to utilitarian maximalism, there's something for everyone.

1. Statement Maxi Skirts

The age of the mini skirt/ midi skirt is not over, but it does share spotlight with its age-old rival. Across the spring runways, a clear look reigned the day: the statement maxi skirt. From Tory Burch to Brandon Maxwell, it was clear that floor-grazing hems in large prints, ruffles, and sparkles are all the fad.

2. The Cargo Pant: Utilitarian and Chic

Balance is the true ruler of fashion. In the past few years we've watched as mini purses have taken over the scene, bags so small they can fit only your credit card and lipstick. And so naturally, pockets have gotten bigger. The wild rise of the cargo pant has ushered in an era of utilitarian style. Designers are all about durable fabrics, boiler suits, and pockets on everything. Louis Vuitton added big pockets to a skirt at the top like a fanny pack, whereas Laquan Smith tackled the cargo pant in bold, bright colors.

The comeback kid of Spring 2023 fashion — the 80's. Inspired by the resurgence of the corset styles of last summer, this 80's are back and better than ever. Drop waist skirts and dresses filled the runways of Carolina Herrera, Sandy Liang, and Gabriela Hearst and stars embraced the look on the red carpet throughout award season. Loud, vibrant colors were seen across the runway, along with big puffy sleeves and balloon shaped skirts. Channel the era through fun pops of color and interesting silhouettes.

The aesthetic that dominated the early 2000's, boho-chic, is starting its revival in full force. Designers like Isabel Marant are going "back to their roots" for spring 2023, bringing a modern take on boho back to the runways.
